watercolor portrait painting of my grandfather: watercolor painting of horse by Lisa Carson, a proud student of Yong Chen

Watercolor painting by
Lisa Carson

Lisa Carson's watercolor learning experience:
The horse painting was so enjoyable to do. I love the contrast in colors. With the deep back ground that brings out the light and meduim tones of the horse. This painting was one of the easiest I have done so far. When you use less colors, dark and light tones it gives the painter an easier choice as to what to use. I originally made the horses face all medium tones but then you suggested that the nose area should be lighter and this made it look much better. I need to remember to squint my eyes to see the dark and light colors. When I stand across the room and look at the horse I can "see" it much better than up close as you squint your eyes. This painting only took about six hours to paint.
