watercolor landscape painting of a house: watercolor painting by Consuelo Diaz, a proud student of Yong Chen

Watercolor painting by
Consuelo Diaz

Consuelo Diaz's watercolor learning experience:
During my introduction to the medium of watercolor painting. I have been most satisfied, for the new techniques that we have learned as a group during the past four weeks. We have learned about basic techniques with the use of primary colors, we have drawn from observation as well as how to manipulate value, tone, and color.

Therefore, now I know that watercolor technique is unique to watercolor. That watercolor "has it's own personality" as of a tender lady. In addition, water is an active and complex partner in the watercolor painting process. Watercolor is prized for its nontoxic, lack of odor and flammability, prompt drying time, ease of cleanup, and disposal, independence from accessory equipment (jars, rags, easels, etc.)

  • Watercolor is a strange media, kind of magic.
  • With the three primary colors (blue, yellow, red) you can make a great nuance of colors.
  • We have learned lifting off color.
  • Lifting up demonstrations ( to fix a picture)
  • Push up the color. Control the color.
  • Perspective.
  • To consider the light around subjects.
  • To define what time of the day.
  • To consider where the light is coming from.

Nevertheless, I still have a lot to learn, and I am looking forward to continue working hard in order to apply all the techniques learned.
