Watercolor Lesson: Painting a Yellow Apple

Cast-shadow and Color Balance
After the previous paint became dried, then I start working into the cast-shadow which is at the left hand side of the apple. Notice the cast-shadow has a quite soft edges, so that I first wet the area with clean water, before I apply the mixture of color into the area.

After I used wet-into-wet to establish the basic shade for the cast-shadow, I then use wet-on-dry technique to apply a new layer of paint to increase the brightness, coolness and warmness in the apple.

When I apply new wet color onto a dry color layer, I usually use a soft brush, so that the color underneath will not be distorted when I move my wet brush over it.
