Watercolor Lesson: Painting a Yellow Apple

Value Contrast Adjustment
In this step, we are going to maximize the value contrast by adding the darkest areas to the painting. I often use a smaller brush to this task. In this step I also add the additional elements, like the stem at the top, and the small dots on the apple skin.

After you've done these, the painting looks much like finish. But not quite. Take a moment to look at the painting, and sometimes, you may need to walk away from it, and when you come back and look at it again, you may discover that something is still needed to be done. That is what we call it, the final touch.
